PACIFICA FAQ -Draft

When will the statue be built?
The Pacifica team feels that the project can be completed and installed in a 9 – 12 month period with a target ground-breaking in 2012 and completion by mid 2013. These estimates are based on the professional opinion of William Kreysler & Associates of Napa and several engineering and consulting firms presently working on the Treasure Island Development Plan.

Is the Pacifica Statue project part of the zoned redevelopment of Treasure Island?
We have been in close communication with all parties involved with the redevelopment efforts for Treasure Island.  With intimate knowledge of the public art policy for the Island, we intend to locate the Pacifica II in front of Building 1.  You can see a rendition of what it might look like here.

Though the Treasure Island Development Authority has given consistent verbal support for our project.  But as a non-profit, grass-roots effort, we receive no funding from any government or development sources.

Who confirms the Statue’s construction?  How does the project get permission to build?
The Pacifica Statue project is applying for placement through Treasure Island’s new Public Art Policy.  Our application will follow the permit and approval process as outlined within the “Policy and Procedures of Temporary Display.”  Our plan complies within the ordinances to the City of San Francisco and those of the Treasure Island Development Authority.

So, the statue is only going to be temporary?
Within the bigger picture of Treasure Island’s re-development, one of the most ambitious, controversial and expensive projects our country has ever seen, we need to follow the flexibility and changes that will come up during this long process.

The entire re-development plan may need modification, which will then need to be approved by the appropriate civic and public organizations.  The Treasure Island Development Authority has wisely created the Temporary Public Art Placement Policy so that if developments change the art can be easily be relocated.

What if the redevelopment plan changes it’s zoning?
Our project continues to be in close communication with the Treasure Island Development Authority.  In fact, our Operations Director, William Chamberlain, contributed to the creation of the current Public Art Policy for the Island. He was also involved in the zoning of the“Bliss Dance Statue,” now standing on Treasure Island’s Great Lawn.  The tenure on Treasure Island of this extremely popular attraction will likely be renewed.

The Pacifica II will provide a similar dramatic and must-see destination for visitors to Treasure Island. In the unlikely event the statue’s home needs to be moved, there are many options for her relocation. For example, the seaside town of Pacifica (the Statue’s namesake) has indicated they would love to be the permanent home.  And while we don’t anticipate this happening, our supporters understand and continue to be open about a long-term placement.

What progress has the Pacifica Statue II Project made so far?
Working closely with Kreysler & Associates, the project has already completed the design, development, and production of two 8’ replicas of the original Pacifica Statue. These are installed at the City of Pacifica City Hall and at the City College of San Francisco. This has included all the scanning and digitizing necessary to proceed with a mold set for the 80-foot statue.

We continue to follow the Treasure Island’s redevelopment, keeping in contact with key supporters.  Through personal contacts, small speaking engagements, docent tours of Treasure Island, and a growing outreach to the public, we’ve raised a significant portion of our first stage funding needs.  Obviously, we still have much more to accomplish.

How does this project help the community?
When she finally stands tall, the new Pacifica will represent the initiative, civic pride and can-do spirit that permeates local attitudes. Such a prominent display of public art will provide an additional destination point for the estimated 16 million visitors who come every year. The Pacifica II Statue will enhance the atmosphere, ambiance, scenic beauty and diversity that our region is known for. We believe that her presence will inspire hope, and new peaceful innovations in public art and technology.

I like what you’re doing.  How can I get involved?
The Pacifica II Statue Project does need your help!  We are currently fundraising to generate the revenue needed for the permitting and construction process, and beyond. Every donation matters and we appreciate your assistance and generosity.  We offer special acknowledgments and thank you gifts for a variety of support levels, which can be found on our Donation Page.

We also like working with volunteers when participating in local events, street fairs and festivals.  If you’re involved in organizing such an event in and around the San Francisco Bay Area, we’d love to hear from you to explore how the Pacifica II Statue Project could participate.

If you, or someone you know, writes for local media or blogs about the Bay Area, we would appreciate an introduction to help get the word out.

As a way to support other the arts and fundraise for our project at the same time, we’d like to connect with local artists who might contribute their talents in some way for creating memorable items for our website Emporium.  Please contact us to explore how we might create a win-win-win arrangement.

Donating a dollar amount you’re comfortable with, contributing your precious time, sharing your valued relationships, or providing artistic energy and creative talents are all sincerely appreciated and will be acknowledged as incredible gifts to our region.
