Junior Interviewer/ journalist

This position is based out of Walnut Creek, CA

The Pacifica II Statue Project is seeking a young perceptive and enthusiastic individual to help us creatively document the life of an incredible man. Salvatore DeGuarda is the force behind our Project.

At 19, Sal was a swimmer for in the famous Billy Rose Aquacade show during the Fair. He is also depicted in Diego Rivera’s mural Pan American Unity. Sal remembers firsthand what it was like to see the Pacifica everyday and marvel at her majestic beauty. Eventually coming to run his family’s construction business, Sal made it his mission to resurrect this lost piece of art so future generations can benefit from the Pacifica statues message of peace, progress and unity. Even at 90 years old, Sal continues to be inspired, and inspiring others, about bringing back this prestigious monument to the San Francisco Bay Area.

Currently Sal’s physical health is not what it used to be and he is in a care-taking facility. However, he is still so positive and forward thinking. Sal is really a wonderful person. We would love to have someone intelligent and enthusiastic help us inspire Sal to document his amazing life’s story.

The position
*1 to 2 days a week – $40+ a meeting we will cover travel expenses (1 -2 hours)
*Come visit Sal at his care taking facility
*Hang out and audio interview him
*Report back to our project manager on key topics discussed
*Develop ways to creatively document interview sessions and provide a youthful perspective on our project

This position is an incredible opportunity for the right person or persons. You will gain valuable journalistic and research experience. You will be assisting a project that is rebuilding a monument and have a substantial impact on morale in our region and country. This experience will be a great addition to any resume or college application.
